London Sights Day 3: Covent Garden - Anna, Marjolein.

Covent Garden
Covent Garden is a well-known touristic place in London.
It has many stores and cafes. There are also a few street artists on the square.
The London Transport Museum is one of the biggest sights in Covent Garden.

Covent Garden was the first public square in London. During medieval times there was a vegetable garden and it was called Covent Garden. It was used to provide monks with food.
In 1632,  Francis Russel gave Inigo Jones (architect) an order to turn the area into a fancy neighbourhood. But around 1642, most of the houses were turned into stores. In 1830,  a market hall was built in the middle of the square.

As you can see on the map, Covent Garden is very centrally situated in London.
